HANG TOUGH
OBJECTIVE
Contender and Gladiator are stood on platforms at opposite ends of the arena. Hang Tough is a game of aerial chess played 3.6m above the arena floor. In between them is the playing area consists of 60 rings which are 1.2m apart.
On the whistle both competitors commence towards each other by swinging and traversing the rings.
The Contenders objective is to reach the Gladiators platform while the Gladiator is trying to wrench them from the rings to the crash mats below.
Half of the rings (on the Gladiators side) are named the 'scoring zone' the Contenders must reach this area to be in with a chance of scoring any points.
FACTS
Hang Tough appeared in the first show of each Series apart from 1996 (Series 5).
This event also clocked up an impressive 7 appearances in Domestic Finals (1994, Series 3, being the only year it didn't appear in the Final) as well as four International Finals.
In 1992 (Series 1), the scoring zone was denoted by a line of blue rings. In 1993 (Series 2), the rings were changed to red and from 1997 (Series 6), the entire scoring zone was made of red rings.
From 1995 (Series 4) onwards, Hang Tough received its own theme, being a recording of 'Hey Rock and Roll' by Showaddywaddy.
A Contender being pulled from the rings in Hang Tough would be accompanied by 'Another One Bites The Dust' by Queen.
