Two Contender stand at the bottom of a 7.5 metre high Pyramid. The Contenders objective is to climb the steps of the Pyramid within the time limit. Its not as easy as it sounds, at the red safety step of the Pyramid are two Gladiators who are determined to keep the Contenders from reaching the summit by wrestling, tumbling and throwing them to the safety mates below.

The Gladiators must not tackle or chase the Contenders beyond the red safety step, doing this will result in disqualification.
Both Contender and Gladiator must release hold of each other once at the bottom on the Pyramid.
The Gladiators may only tackle the Contender they were assigned at the beginning of the event.

From 1995 (Series 4) onwards, a huge G was placed above the Pyramid which would flash should a Contender reach the top.
The original version of Pyramid had larger steps and did not have the red safety step. The inclusion of the red saftey step and thinner base steps of the Pyramid were introduced due to a series of serious injuries to the Gladiators Amazon, Jet and Rhino.
In the two years it was in its original form during 1994-1995 (Series 3-4), the event appeared in both domestic finals.
In the Celebrity Special's the third Contender got 2 points for making it to the top of the Pyramid.
