TILT
OBJECTIVE
Contender and Gladiator are stood on two tilt platforms joined by a rope. The Gladiator is on a higher tilt table angled forwards and a Contender on a lower tilt table angled backwards. On the whistle each competitor must pull the rope with both hands and try to dislodge the other by pulling them off their tilt table.
FACTS
Tilt was road tested at the 1993 Wembley Live shows.
From 1994 (Series 3) Contenders received no points for a draw as opposed to the 2 they would receive in 1993 (Series 2).
Tilt was the only event in which the Contender would get two attempts against a Gladiator.
It was the only event from the 1993 (Series 2) batch that never featured in a semi final or International show.
Tilt was the first event to be axed from the show. This was mainly due to serious injuries sustained by female Gladiators Panther (1994 Series 3, Quarter Final 1) and Nightshade (1995, Series 4, Heat 8). Due to safety concerns after Nightshade's injury the ropes were no longer attatched to the competitors and a red marker was placed in the middle of the rope. Whoever got the red mark over their table was deemed the winner of the event.
Despite Tilt’s status as a 'dangerous Gladiators event' it did not see any major injuries in other countries.
