Commando, Geoff Barker

INTRODUCTION

Paul from the Gladiators Zone spoke exclusively to Australian Gladiator Commando, Geoff Barker. We talked about which Event he absolutely hated, who he'd like to give a good beating to on Duel and why he'd never do Gladiators again...

INTERVIEW

Q: "Why did the Australian Gladiators show come to an end?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "Basically greed. The production company demanded a lot more money from the network and they told them to get lost, much to everyone's disappointment."

Q: "What were your best and worst Events?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "I was particularly good at Skytrack and Hang Tough. I hated the cage ball game (Atlaspheres). I have even forgotten its name! Ha ha, obviously repression."

Q: "How did you join the Gladiators show?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "They had huge tryouts all around the country. They tested us for fitness, agility, strength, speed, camera ability and about a million other things - the top 15 were then drug tested. Yep we were the ONLY fully drug tested Gladiators in the world."

Q: "Why did the name Commando suit you?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "I was an ex British Marine Commando and had it tattooed on my arm from my military days."

Q: "What was your most thrilling moment during your career as Gladiator?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "Getting in was just a huge buzz and touring Malaysia was also fun."

Q: "What you think was your best attribute as Gladiator?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "I was a good all rounder because of my Marine training. I could do most games well and as I am sure you know they all called upon a variety of skills that you don't get just by being fit or strong on its own."

Q: "If you could face any other person on Duel, who would it be and why?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "George Bush because he needs a good beating!"

Q: "What do you think of the International Gladiators? Are there any Gladiators in particular that impressed you?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "I think they were great. We met a few when they came over to Australia and they were all really nice. To choose one wouldn't be fair as they all had their niches."

Q: "Would you ever have wanted to join the UK Gladiators team, like Vulcan did?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "No way, I am over doing Gladiators. Too many injuries and too many other goals to hang around doing the same thing for long."

Q: "Do you still train?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "No, I haven't trained for years now. I am still in good shape but I ran several model agencies and wrote a few books after the show finished and the pressure of this and constant social engagements made it hard to keep my size."

Q: "Which fellow Australian Gladiators impressed you most?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "I liked Vulcan a lot, I had known him for years. Condor was by far the most dedicated."

Q: "Finally, what are you doing nowadays and do you have a message to any of your fans?"

Commando Interview

Commando: "After starting Australia's biggest modelling agency I moved into writing books and presenting on TV. I also spend a huge amount of time PR'ing and managing my wife Bessie Bardot. She is one of Australia's most achieved models, author and presenter."
